Venturing Out: My Decision to Leave a Job I Loved

Today I’m writing to share a pivotal shift in my career journey.

Recently, I made the decision to resign from my 9-5 job. It was not an easy decision, considering it was an awesome job. The work-life balance was pretty great (for a corporate job), the work was meaningful and aligned with my skills, and the people were amazing. Yet, I was starting to get a nagging feeling that I wanted something different. Something more.

As I thought about my career path, I realized I couldn't see myself moving up within the organization. Climbing the typical corporate ladder felt like I would be trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

And so, I took a step back to figure out what that “different” and “more” really meant for me.

After dedicating time to reflect, I gained some much needed clarity about what I was wanting next in my career: more autonomy, more flexibility, more impact, and more time for the things that matter most to me - my family and my passion for empowering women leaders.

Sure, sticking to the comfortable would've been easier. Following the expected path seemed logical. But, as we know, sometimes the path of growth means stepping out of our comfort zone.

So what did I do?

I began reaching out to people in my network and taking strategic actions to prioritize finding an opportunity that aligned with where I wanted to go next in my career. At the same time, I had the privilege of guiding clients through my signature program - Repowered Leadership Academy - gaining even more clarity for myself.

  • As I helped my clients gain clarity on their vision, goals, and values - I found more clarity for myself.

  • As we worked on prioritizing their time and energy to focus on what matters most to them - and what would get them further and faster towards their goals - I was guiding myself through the same process.

  • As I shared the tools and methods that are proven to transform your mindset and improve well-being, performance, and productivity - I was doing the work too!

And I have no doubt this is what helped me to find an opportunity that's a perfect fit for my vision - a more senior leadership role with more impact and more of the flexibility and time that I was craving.

I'll share more on my LinkedIn in the coming weeks, so connect with me there if you're curious about where I'm headed!

While the job I'm leaving behind was pretty great, I knew I wanted more. I wanted different. And I couldn't be more excited for this next chapter.

What are you wanting more of?

You can be grateful for what you have AND still want different, better, more.

It doesn't always mean a complete career shift; perhaps it's a desire for better work-life balance, increased responsibility, a greater impact, career advancement, or even financial growth. Whatever that "more" is for you, I’m here to tell you that it’s worth reaching for and it’s within reach.

It starts by gaining clarity on what you stand for and where you want to go. It takes time to reflect and it takes effort to gain the courage, confidence, and capacity to make it your reality.

If you’re interested in embarking on your transformative journey and are wanting support along the way, I’m excited to announce that Repowered Leadership Academy is set to kick off again in January 2024!

Here's to making 2024 the year you get more of what you want.
